Rumour that Apple maybe testing "SIRI" on iPhone 4!

"Today, we have a very interesting bit of news, tipped to us by a source close to Apple. According to them, Apple is testing Siri on devices other than the iPhone 4S. The device specifically mentioned to us was theiPhone 4, but we can most likely assume that other devices are being tested as well. This means that we will potentially see a software update that allows Siri to run on older devices. Currently, it only runs on theiPhone 4S, but Apple has given employees access to a special software version that incorporates Siri’s features on to older devices. Hackers and developers are currently working for a port, but if Apple releases this in a software update any time soon, they may not need to.
Very few people suspected that Apple would ever release Siri for older devices, since it was one of the few things that distinguished them from the 4S. However, this report contradicts those rumors, and suggests that we will be seeing a software update soon. Our source also claims that Apple has been restoring employees to stock software, not wanting them to use it in the public where it might be seen. Their secrecy on this also suggests that we may be seeing a release soon. Keep in mind, however, that this is not a sure thing, and that Apple’s testing may lead to them discontinuing the project. But the fact that they are testing it at all means that we can be hopeful at the moment."

Some useful and quality tweaks for your idevice inc. iPhone 4/iPod T4 on iOS 5

BytaFont - (New icon added to home screen) Changes the whole system Font on your idevice, you can either search and install BytaFont in Cydia, then browse many fonts to pick one to suit you and your mood!  or you can simply search for the Font itself, as BytaFont will be installed automatically with any iRuler.net Font in Cydia!  For example - My favourite Font is the "Scooby Doo" font, search & install - and BytaFont will go in with it!  Then simply load up the new BytaFont App on your homescreen - click basic at the botom - then tap the font you wish to install, wait for the Respring, and Voila!


Infinifolders - (adds to settings.app) place unlimited amount of apps inside folders and break the restriction of apples default 12 apps per folder.


Barrell - (adds to settings.app) change the way your icons scroll from page to page when swiping from left to right and vice versa, some fantastic (similar to 3D) effects!

Five-Column SpringBoard - (adds to settings.app) adds Five columns to springBoard icons instead of the default four!  Get more of your favourite apps on that page!

Gridlock - (applies to springboard automatically) Hold your finger on your icon until the icon starts bouncing - then you will be able to place your icons anywhere you like on the screen rather than having to set it into the default 4x4 grid!

i4 invisible Slider - (go into Winterboard to activate) Hides the slide to unlock scroll bar on the lock screen!  A great way to confuse potential snoopers on how to unlock your phone/ipod!

iGotYa - (adds to settings.app) A great security feature that takes a SILENT photo and sends the GPS Location of your iphone/ipod to your Email address IF the incorrect passcode is entered on your screen to unlock the phone! (great if you've lost your phone and you are trying to track it with the added bonus of seeing the perpatraitors face!)

Infinidock - (tweak added to system settings) adds a Scrolling lower dock to your iphone/ipod home screen.  Slide your lower dock left and right with side swipes.

NoSpot - (applies to springboard automatically) Removes that dodgy search screen when you swipe left on your main homescreen.

Unlimtones - (Bigboss Repo source - Adds new Icon to Homescreen) Search and install a ringtone of your choice to yoour phone! Thousands and Thousands to chose from.... just type it in the ringtone search bar, and download it straight into your Sound board.

VMOJI 4 - 60 rare icons (similar to that of the blackberry smilies) simply hold down the number keys when you are typing a text, email, facebook status etc etc until the smiley box pops up!

WeeKillBackground for notification center (applies automatically to Springboard) - Adds a App Kill button to the top of your notification page - so that you can close all running apps quickly and easily before putting you phone back in your pocket!

Transparent Status Bar for iOS4 - (Works on iOS5 and is applied in Winterboard!) - turns the top status bar on your phone transparent, especially useful when runnning darker wallpaper pictures of HD Wallpapers from the Retina WallpapersHD app.

Why isn't SIRI available on iPhone 4 & iPod Touch 4 yet?

As @stroughtonsmith and I demonstrated a few days ago, it is possible to run Siri on iPhone 4 and iPod touch. However, as we are currently unable to distribute the port or the procedure we used, I think I should at least explain tthe reasons why that isn’t happening

For a little background information, it’s important to understand the fundamentals of how copyright law works. Apple owns the copyright on the software, images, and data used inside iOS: they created them. Because of that, they have the ability to decide what other people can — are licensed to — do with them: copy, distribute, adapt, modify, or any number of other protections of their works. Pretty simple. But this does lead to one important, if somewhat counterintuitive, fact: just because a piece of data is available freely on the internet does not mean that you have the rights to redistribute that data (or any part of it) without an applicable license. In practice, that means that just because certain files are freely available on a device or inside a firmware (.ispw) file freely downloadable from Apple’s website, it does not imply that those files can legally be distributed by anyone else.

In the context of Siri, this means that the resource files, images, and code that makes up Siri cannot be freely shared. These frameworks and plugins that work together to build Siri are not included on other iOS builds besides the ones running on the iPhone 4S. Therefore, these files must be copied from a running iPhone 4S, or from the iPhone 4S’s firmware (.ipsw) file. The first method requires you to own an iPhone 4S to copy the files from, so it is not useful for most people: if you already own an iPhone 4S, you already have Siri. The issue with the second method is more technical: the firmware files are distributed encrypted, and we do not yet have the decryption key to access the Siri files inside of the iPhone 4S firmware file.

Just from that, you currently must already own an iPhone 4S to install Siri on it without a blatant copyright violation. But even that’s not all: if you do all of that, there’s still a few more reasons why Siri won’t just work.

Many people have managed to display the Siri UI on the iPhone 4; it is, in fact, reasonably trivial with access to the files copied off an iPhone 4S (as explained above). But only Steven and myself — yes, I know there are others that claim to have: I’ll tell you this, they haven’t ;) — have managed to make Siri successfully contact the Apple servers and receive responses. Why? Here, the answers become slightly more murky. Partially this is because I don’t want to reveal too much about the procedure to try and ensure that you all will be able to use it in the future, and partially because it requires a jailbroken iPhone 4S, something which is currently not publicly available. Anyway, the general gist of it is that you almost certainly need the access provided by the a jailbreak to extract all of the information necessary to get Siri working on another device, and that’s not yet availble. (And, no, I don’t know when it will be. You can follow along with me while we wait, though!)

Anyway, I hope that clears up some of the technical and legal reasons why distributing a build (or instructions) to run Siri on older hardware isn’t possible at the moment. When we have the ability to decrypt the encrypted iPhone 4S firmware file — to extract the Siri files legally, without the need for an iPhone 4S — and we have an iPhone 4S jailbreak to obtain the other nececssary information at a mass scale, hopefully this can become a reality and everyone can try out Siri on their older devices. Until then, showing you a video that it is possible is the best we can do.

(Oh, and to answer another popular question: nobody has tried it on an iPhone 3GS or iPod touch 3G or an iPad on iOS 5, so we don’t have any clue if it will work or not there. But we can hope it will!)

How do I Reboot my iphone back into its normal Tethered jailbroken state?

If you're on iOS5 and using a tethered jailbroken phone which is stuck on the apple icon boot up logo after a reboot,  or if you are rebooting from a cydia install, or even if your battery has run out and you lost power to your phone/ipod, then all you need to do is open redsn0w 0.9.9 and select [extras] then on the next screen select the top option which is [Just Boot (just boot tethered right now)] - the next screen will then prompt you to put your phone into DFU mode to complete the tethered boot up process.... after a short time after detecting your device in DFU mode you will receive a message saying "the rest of the process continues on your device" - you are then free to disconnect your device from the PC and allow to reboot remotely! 

iOS 5 .0 Jailbreaking news.....

The latest apple iDevice software iOS5 is now jailbreakable in a Tethered and Semi-Tethered state only.


The Jailbreak community still awaits the release of the fully untethered jailbreak which is hopefully only just around the corner now that apple have announced iOS 5.0.1 release.


Tethered: If power to your device is lost and needs to be rebooted - then you will need access to a pc/mac and Redsn0w or iBooty to boot the phone back up into its jailbroken state, Other wise the phone/ipod will freeze on the apple boot screen.


Semi-Tether: A new tweak added to the tethered jailbreak means that you can now boot the phone/ipod back up even after losing power to your iphone/ipod touch, the down side to this method is that on reboot you will lose functionality of Safari Browser, Emails and Cydia (along with any cydia installed tweaks you have installed)  However, the main functions of the phone, ie. Contacts, Phone, Texts etc etc will still work until you do manage to get access to pc/mac and reboot again into its full jailbreak capacity.


The latest version of Redsn0w will also assist in the jailbreaking of iOS 5.0

Latest news for Jail-breaking beginners!

Itunes latest version is to upgrade in the next few days to run in line with the new version of iOS 5.0.1 which is to be released VERY soon to all idevice users on iOS 5.0  -  Battery issues for iphone 4S users are hopefully being cured.  iPhone 4 users may also see improvements in Battery drain.


To check for itunes updates open itunes on your mac/pc and click on the Help Tab - then check for updates.  Most users will receive messages automatically to update itunes, if there is an update available when itunes is opened..


iOS 5.0.1 beta has been released to developers and has already been successfully jailbroken using the [semi-tethered] method.  To download the latest versions of Redsn0w 0.9.9 (b8) which will assist you in jailbreaking iOS 5.0.1 (Tethered/Semi-Tethered Jailbreak) see links below:
